This large, open plan space has been divided into three clearly zoned areas. We developed a streamlined, handleless family kitchen topped with a Calacutta marble work surface. With the design in the early stages, we heavily focused on symmetry and consciously decided to hide appliances from view. Heavy black ovens detract from the light and airy feel of the proposed plan, so they were hidden under the island. Many of the cupboards house plug sockets to keep the work surfaces free from smaller electrical items and cables. The sink area can get cluttered and messy during busy times of the day, so the sink was placed on the back wall rather than the island. Having the hob on the island encourages a more sociable experience for the cook and those sitting at the bar stools.
The dining area comfortably seats 8 guests, although the benches allow for more little ones to squeeze in for those all important playdate meals and activities. We selected a warm, almost pinky hue of brick slips to create a feature wall behind the handcrafted dining table. The expertly crafted table top, depicting an intricate floral design, was created by a local craftsman in the Ubud region of Bali. Table legs and a thick sheet of protective glass have been expertly added to ensure that this centrepiece is not only easy to clean but perfectly up to the job of handling this busy, high-traffic area.
The snug area- a cosy corner - benefits from a salmon coloured accent wall to bring a subtle element of warmth to the room. To add interest to the room we used a natural toned herringbone vinyl throughout which is wipe clean and ideal for a busy household. The large open plan space is accessorised with wooden shelving, housing accents and travel trinkets. A meticulously crafted lighting scheme enhances the entire space, featuring distinct lighting in each area that can be individually activated.
